Light & Power's Pandemic Response Plan

BLPC's Customer Care Update

Rodney Dottin, Manager Customer Care

April 07, 2020

We have entered a new phase in our country’s fight to manage the spread of COVID-19, with a Government imposed 24-hour curfew in effect since last Friday. This pandemic is without precedent here in Barbados and around the world, and The Barbados Light & Power Company is supporting all efforts to safeguard the health and wellness of Barbadians. We remain unwavering in our commitment to provide a safe and reliable electricity service to customers, today and in the challenging days and weeks to come. We will do whatever we can to help. Today, I wish to share, what we believe, are some measures of reprieve for our customers:

1. As shared by our Managing Director, last month, we are working with the Welfare Department to help families in need. We hope that this assistance will provide some peace of mind so they can stay focused on what is most important now, that is their safety and wellbeing.

2. We have temporarily suspended disconnections for non-payment for residential and business customers. However, we do encourage you to stay as current as possible on your electricity bills to avoid accumulating a large balance in the longer term.

3. We will offer assistance through bill payment extensions and bill payment plans during the period. Customers who are experiencing hardship and who are finding it difficult to pay their electricity bills may contact a Customer Service Representative at 626-4300 or on-line at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it..

4. We are in discussion with our regulators regarding other measures to assist customers during the period.

5. The Fuel Clause Adjustment this month may be a further ease. The FCA for the month of April is 24.1235 cents per kWh, down from 28.0810 cents in March. A decrease of 17%. The lowest FCA for 2020, and as a matter of fact, for the entire 2019 year as well.

Due to the national curfew and its impact on business partners who print our bills, customers may not receive an electricity bill as usual via the traditional post. Instead, bill balances can be accessed through the automatic bill balance service. Again, please call 626-4300 and follow the prompts. Alternatively, you can access our web self-service and e-billing online facilities at www.blpc.com.bb for billing history and information. On our website, look for the link to our ‘customer support page’ and submit your queries, and service requests there.

Bill payments may continue to be made online conveniently at www.blpc.com.bb where there are links to secure online banking via Commercial Banks, Barbados Public Workers Co-operative Credit Union and SurePay Online.

Lastly, a note about energy use awareness. Many of us are working from home, which means that we may be using more electricity than usual. We encourage you to be mindful of your usage to manage cost in the end. Ensure that you are turning off lights, electronics and equipment when not in use, and conserve energy whenever possible.

Light & Power is working 24 hours to provide service to all customers. Thank you for your patience in this COVID-19 pandemic environment and again, we take the opportunity to ask everybody to stay at home and let us reduce or end the spread of COVID-19 in Barbados.
