Mr. Williams appointed Managing DirectorThe Board of Directors of The Barbados Light & Power Company announces the appointment of Mr. Peter Williams as the new Managing Director with effect from July 1, 2006 on the retirement of the Managing Director, Mr. Andrew Gittens.

Mr. Williams, who was appointed as a Director on the Boards of Light & Power Holdings and The Barbados Light & Power Co. Ltd in February of this year, joined the Company in 1977, as an engineer in the Generation Department. He has held several positions since then, the most recent being Chief Operating Officer. He has a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering from Manchester University, a Masters of Science Degree in Power Systems from the University of the West Indies and a Masters of Business Administration from the University of Western Ontario.

The Board extends its best wishes to Mr. Williams in his new role and looks forward to the continued success of the Company under his leadership.

Mr. Gittens retires after many years of serviceMr. Gittens retires after many years of outstanding service to the Company. He joined Light & Power as an electrical engineer in 1962 and has been at the forefront of the Company’s major engineering projects over the past 44 years, including the recent installation of the new 60 megawatt low speed diesel generating plant at the Spring Garden Generation Station. Prior to becoming Managing Director in 1999, he served as Director Engineering.

Over the years he has received many kudos from his colleagues and international counterparts for his technical brilliance, uncanny eye for detail and unwavering integrity. During his tenure with the Company, customer use of electricity increased more than ten fold, from 40 million kilowatt-hours in 1962 to 850 million kilowatt-hours in 2005.

The Board, Management and Staff of The Barbados Light & Power Company thank Mr. Gittens for his exemplary service and wish him a happy and healthy retirement. Mr. Gittens will continue to serve as a member of the Boards of The Barbados Light & Power Company and its parent, Light & Power Holdings Limited.
