Light & Power Supports Several Schools’ Graduations

The third term of each school year marks a season of farewells, transitions, and exciting new beginnings. It is also a time when schools across the island come together to celebrate the achievements of their graduating students. Recognizing the significance of these milestone moments for students and their families, The Barbados Light & Power Company Ltd. (Light & Power) once again partnered with schools across the island to help make their graduation celebrations even more memorable.
This year, Light & Power proudly provided support to nine schools: Seventh Day Adventist School, St. Giles Nursery School, Erdiston Nursery School, St. Mark’s Primary, Good Shepherd Primary, St. George Primary, Arthur Smith Primary, The Maria Holder Nursery at Gall Hill, and Queen’s College.

As part of its commitment to community development and youth empowerment, representatives from Light & Power visited each school to present donations and were honoured to participate in the ceremonies, including presenting awards to students who demonstrated outstanding academic performance and excellence throughout the school year. Manager, Corporate Communications, Nichole Scantlebury, highlighted the value of being actively involved in these celebrations. “At Light & Power, we believe true community investment goes beyond writing a cheque. It is about being present, building relationships, and sharing in the moments that shape lives. This year, having the opportunity to celebrate alongside students, parents, teachers, and principals reinforced why these partnerships are so important. When we show up to recognize the achievements of our young people, we send a powerful message that their hard work matters, their potential is valued, and their future is worth investing in.”

The support was warmly received by principals, who expressed their sincere appreciation for the contributions and the positive impact they had in helping to ensure successful graduation ceremonies. Principal of St. Mark’s Primary, Tamara Whittaker-Massiah said, “This donation has not only allowed us to celebrate the academic success of our students but we also selected one quality this year which represented what we would like the children to take with them, so we looked for the child who best exemplified what a Monarch is, leading by example, leading with courage and humility and Light & Power’s generous donation helped us to celebrate that child.”

Erdiston Nursery principal Sonia Taylor also expressed gratitude for the support, “The donation from Barbados Light & Power was great because it helped to fund the prize packages for students for our closing ceremony, these packages are about their accomplishments for the year and gives them something by which to remember Erdiston. We really want to thank you because without you we couldn’t have done it like we wanted to.”

As students take the next step in their educational journey, Light & Power encourages other businesses, organizations, and community members to join in celebrating and investing in our nation’s youth. Whether through sponsorship, mentorship, volunteering, or other forms of support, every contribution can make a meaningful difference in helping young people achieve their full potential. Together, we can create opportunities, inspire confidence, and empower the next generation of leaders to succeed, because at Light & Power, we believe that supporting our youth is a shared responsibility.
