The programme is a formalised system of on-the-job training and theoretical training on a day release basis with a goal to train persons to the level of competence required in the area of Mechanics. Student Job Attachments
Each year students are temporarily employed during semester breaks from tertiary level institutions such as: Barbados Community College, University of the West Indies, Samuel Jackman Prescod Polytechnic, Vocational Training Board, as well as some overseas colleges.
Students may apply for vacation attachments either by sending application letters directly to the Company or through the attachment programme at their institution.
Our Commitment to Health and Safety
Our Commitment to health and safety is a critical part of how we work. Our business is on a path to achieve world-class safety, and we’re making progress by deepening our culture of safety and health, and strengthening our disciplined approach to safety performance across our company.
Safety Culture
Everyone working at BLPC strives to live and work injury-free, and shares a belief that all injuries are preventable. That commitment is part of how we work, underpinning everything we do.
At the beginning of shifts and meetings, team members take a moment for safety, sharing information on the best safety practices and lessons learned from our operations. Many of our companies hold regular safety stand-downs to talk about current areas of safety focus. Team members are encouraged to set safety-related personal development goals, and take part in the many safety training sessions offered throughout the year.
Our Commitment to Health and Wellness
We provide access to several avenues to help our employees maintain healthy lifestyles including our gyms at Spring Garden and Garrison, on-site Nurse visits, Mobile Medical Unit for Annual Medicals, Employee Assistance Program (EAP) and Flexible Work Arrangement (FWA) Program. Additionally, as an affiliate of Emera BLPC employees are eligible to enter Emera-wide challenges that are aimed at improving and maintaining healthy lifestyles through friendly competition and education.
